Psalm 1:1-2

” 1 Blessed is the man
Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly,
Nor stands in the path of sinners,
Nor sits in the seat of the scornful;
2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD,
And in His law he meditates day and night.”

Psalm 1 begins the Book of Psalms with bold and broad affirmations.  It speaks of those who know and love the Lord and those who don’t.  That one is blessed who doesn’t walk, stand or sit with the sinful of this world.  No, he or she finds their solis in God and His revelation of Himself, the Scriptures.

As the psalm continues it tells how the blessed ones will endure and abound and how the wicked ones will blow away like chaff.  Of course all of this is both challenging and instructive.  As those who know about God, His grace and His Word, we are challenged to take these things to heart.  Psalm 1 concludes this this enduring reminder:

6 “For the LORD knows the way of the righteous,
But the way of the ungodly shall perish.”
